This atypical lava stone building stands in the village of Saint Privat d'Allier, at the foot of a rocky spur flanked by a castle. The village is on the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela, and is the first stop on the route, after the emblematic start at Le Puy en Velay, some twenty kilometres away. There are plenty of cultural attractions within easy reach, including the picturesque town of Le Puy, listed as one of the most beautiful in Europe, the fortress of Polignac, the châteaux of Bouzols and Rochelambert, the lace conservatory and the lentil farm. But it's also, and above all, for all its nature-related activities that this gîte is a little gem: the Monistrol d'Allier water sports centre, 4 km away, offers top-quality white-water sports where the more adventurous can try their hand at rafting, canoeing and canyoning. Ten kilometres away, the Via Ferrata offers an acrobatic course combining hiking and climbing above the Allier gorges. For hikers, there are plenty of starting points for walks of all lengths and difficulties. This bucolic spirit is omnipresent in the pigeonnier's surroundings, extending right through to the living room, which opens onto a 180-degree panorama of the valley. A large 5,000 m² meadow planted with fruit trees stretches out in front of the terrace, providing an ideal playground for children in search of space.
